Character's Name: Sheena Fujibayashi
Character's Age: 21
Character's Class: I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say Ninja.
Biography: Sheena is a ninja from the hidden village of Mizuho, originally on the world of Tethe’alla. She was found in Gaoracchia forest as an infant and has no knowledge of her true family; the village chief, Igaguri, adopted Sheena and raised her as his successor. It was discovered that Sheena had the potential to be a Summoner, someone who could form pacts with and utilize the powers of the world’s Summon Spirits. Thus, she was also trained with the goal of becoming a powerful asset to the village.
At the age of seven, she and several of the villagers, including her grandfather, made the journey to the first Summon Spirit’s dwelling, the Temple of Lightning. There, Sheena was to make her oath and prove herself to Volt as a capable and worthy Summoner. However, everything went wrong from the start: Volt’s words were unintelligible, and when no one could communicate with him, he just attacked, injuring Sheena and killing a quarter of the population of Mizuho. The attack left Igaguri in a coma; after the incident, Sheena was regarded by most of the village as a failure, hated for tearing apart families and being unable to handle the task set before her.
Not too long later she was sent to Meltokio to aid in the research the scientists there were doing on summon spirits. While there she met Zelos, the Chosen of Tethe’alla. (She probably thought he was sort of a pain even then!) The summon spirit Corrine was created there by the scientists, and Sheena befriended him, probably the first person he liked; he had a thing for hating all the others.
Still in line as successor even though she was in some ways very much an outcast from Mizuho, near the start of game one Sheena accepted a mission from the King of Tethe’alla: go to Sylvarant, the other world, and assassinate the Chosen of Mana who lived there. She really had no choice but to accept the assignment, and to Sylvarant she went, encountering the Chosen, Colette, and her companions on the Ossa Trail. Colette foiled her plans once, and the whole party did it again when they defeated her at the end of the trail. She would encounter them again several times, including another battle (which she also lost) in the Balacruf Mausoleum, and a final time amid the ruins of Luin. She was in the city when it came under Desian attack, and was defending the people there with her life. Raine reluctantly healed her, and Sheena agreed to go along with the journey temporarily. Along the way she formed deeper bonds with the group, and revealed her potential as a Summoner by forming pacts with three of the four Sylvarant spirits.
After being defeated in the Tower of Mana and escaping the immediate threat of Yuan and the Renegades, it was Sheena who got everyone to Tethe’alla using the Rheairds. They crashed almost right away; they would need Volt’s power to get the Rheairds off the ground again.
Going to the Temple of Lightning again was far from what Sheena wanted to do, and going into it, the acting Chief of Mizuho had spilled the beans about what happened the last time. Throughout their journey through the temple, Sheena was distant and pensive. As Volt appeared and spoke again in his ancient language, she started to freak out, but this time Raine was there to translate. Volt still attacked, blasting the party and causing Sheena to freeze up in fear. At the last second, Corrine jumped in front of the attack that would have killed her; his death strengthened her resolve, and the party defeated Volt. (And there was finally hope of forgiveness from even the most stubborn people of Mizuho).
When it was discovered that Summon Spirit pacts were one of the things needed to bring the split worlds back together, they decided to find the other spirits in Tethe’alla and Sylvarant; Sheena made pacts with all of them. She had come a long way from the assassin who trailed the Chosen of Sylvarant. She used her abilities to fire the Mana Cannon that stopped one chaotic attempt by Yggdrasill to bring his plans to fruition; upon his eventual defeat, she was appointed liaison between Mizuho and Meltokio by the King.
By the start of the second game Sheena is already Chief of Mizuho, with its information network and ninja squads under her direction. Emil and Marta meet up with her in the Temple of Ice, where she rescues Martel and subsequently falls down a trapdoor. She went with them for most of their journey, of particular usefulness since most of the journeying was through the Summon Spirit temples; her connection with Verius, the revived form of Corrine, became essential to Emil’s choices. She and the others from the World Regeneration Journey were accompanying Emil and Marta through the Ginnungagap when they disappeared.
Pulled From: Near the very end of the game, as the original main party disappears due to the Derris Emblems. Instead of appearing somewhere else in Aselia, Sheena came to Atlas. She has now been there for some time and is an established member of Ad Libitum; she's been away for a while on a quest.
Personality:
Sheena is standoffish and a little harsh to people she doesn’t know well, but friends will know her as loyal and protective. For a ninja she’s pretty darn clumsy sometimes, with a propensity for falling into holes and a little speaking before she thinks.
Her strength lies in her speed and her skills. Ninja are as fast as they come, and with summoning on top of that, there isn’t much Sheena could not do if she tried. She’s protective to the point of recklessness at times, refusing to give up the fight (Luin is an example) to save something important. However, her greatest flaw is her ability to make important or difficult decisions. This was only enhanced by her experiences with Volt, and the resentment of the village drove her self-confidence into the ground at a very young age. She’s worked to rebuild it, and is better about it now, but the tendency to feel overwhelmed is still there and interferes with what she’s doing at times. (There is no information network of Mizuho in Atlas, so she has to rely upon what she overhears herself, or what others in Ad Libitum pass on to her.)
Once the others became her friends, Sheena basically gave up all pretense of desire to assassinate Colette. After all, Colette was a really nice person, just like anyone else might be back in Tethe’alla. Sheena also developed a crush on Lloyd, but her relationship (if…you could call it that) with Zelos is the longest-standing and most love-hate there is. Slapping him for his lewd comments is a favorite. In Dawn of the New World she’s grown closer to Regal, as the two have worked together to rebuild Ozette and get the world back on track once again. She and Raine got off to a rocky start but eventually came to trust each other; with Genis, Presea, Emil and Marta, she’s just friendly and easygoing.
Roleplay Sample:
Sheena watched the faces of the others fade out around her, expecting them to come back into view moments later. Instead, a canopy of trees appeared as she opened her eyes, and she sat up, rubbing the back of her head. This forest was unfamiliar, though the path before her looked well-traveled. A quick check reassured her that she still carried her weapons and other essentials.
The mana here felt strange. As she stood, looking around, she nearly backed right into a huge tree. Following the trunk upward with her eyes, and then resting a hand on its bark, Sheena frowned. This tree…could it be? No, that wouldn’t be possible. There was no way it could be anywhere near this size.
In an unfamiliar place, with enemies potentially anywhere, she thought it best to leave the tree and follow the path. At worst, it would lead deeper into the forest, which would be no problem. She could always turn around and come back to the tree. But hopefully it led to civilization, instead.
